• Conductor Tensioner Unit (CTU)

    Conductor tensioners are used on jackup drilling rigs to support the drilling conductor pipe, which connects the rig to the wellhead. This relieves the conductor of the full weight load and prevents buckling, vortex-induced vibrations, and material fatigue.

    Conductor Tensioner Unit

    Our conductor tensioner unit (CTU) is a push-type, ram-style tensioner for jackup rigs consisting of a central CTU skid and a control panel skid. The most common tensioner capacities are 227 and 500 metric tons. The all-hydraulic cylinder control system works on water-glycol based tensioner fluid. An HP (high-pressure) lifting side and a LP (low-pressure) side are pressurized from the HPU. The HP side includes bladder accumulators with nitrogen bladders, which act as gas springs. When the tensioned conductor is exposed to minor vertical movements, the cylinders will respond in a soft, cushioning manner. An external hydraulic power unit (HPU) serves as the power source for the tensioning and may be supplied with the CTU.

    Conductor Tensioner - Horizontal

    Our conductor tensioner - horizontal (CTH) is a near-static pulling device that keeps the upper end of the drilling conductor at the preset horizontal position. Positioned by four horizontal wire-pulling cylinders around the conductor, the CTH suits all conductor sizes. The accumulator skid houses two bladder accumulators per cylinder that contain HP nitrogen gas. The pre-charged bladders act as gas springs. When the tensioned conductor is exposed to minor horizontal movements, the cylinders will respond softly. An external hydraulic power unit (HPU) serves as the power source for the tensioning and may be supplied with the CTH. Following use of the HPU during tensioning, the CTH works as a self-contained, standalone system monitored by the central alarm system.

    Conductor Tensioner - Vertical

    The conductor tensioner - vertical (CTV), a pull-type tensioner for jackup rigs, keeps vertical tension at the upper end at preset value when the rig drills with a subsea BOP. When the rig drills with a surface BOP, the CTV may also be used for lifting the BOP and conductor, which is useful when stuck casing needs to be cut. An external hydraulic power unit (HPU) serves as the power source for the tensioning and may be supplied with the CTV and shared with the CTH. The HPU is only used during the tensioning, after which the CTV works as a self-contained, stand-alone system monitored by the central alarm system.
