• ST-160 Iron Roughneck

The ST-160 Iron Roughneck from National Oilwell Varco combines compact design with maximized reach and takes it to an unprecedented level.

    Description

    • Superior Design:  The ST-160 Iron Roughneck from National Oilwell Varco combines compact design with maximized reach and takes it to an unprecedented level. Completely retracted, the tool extends just over five feet from the pivot, minimizing its footprint and leaving more room on the rig floor. Fully extended, the tool travels 13.5 feet, allowing versatile layout configurations. With its trackless design, the new ST-160 continues to improve drill floor safety.   The addition of a quick disconnect Drill Pipe Module to a universal casing hanger provides the customer and casing crews a safe alternative for operating casing tongs.  NOV has worked with many casing tong manufacturers to allow as many options for hanging casing tongs as possible.
    • Innovation:  The innovative torque wrench design of the ST-120 has been optimized for the ST-160 to allow for more torque for those troubling connections requiring a higher than normal break out torque.  In most cases the additional torque will prevent the rig from pulling out tongs in these scenarios.  As with the ST-120, the ST-160 provides a full 60 degrees of rotation and three-point bite which means better grip, quicker make-up, and less box deformation on the connection by applying more reliable make-up torque.  Combined with a high torque and height adjustable spinning wrench, the ST-160 is equipped to handle today's high-performance drill pipe connections. Pushing the robust design philosophy of the ST-120 into the ST-160 ensures that nearly all your wear items on the Drill Pipe Module will interchange between models limiting requirements for additional spares.
    • Maximize Drill Floor Space:  With small spaces in mind, the compact size of the ST-160 means replacement of your existing iron roughneck is easy. Even tough roughneck installations under the top drive rails are no problem, as the maximum vertical height of the frame is approximately 120 inches. The ST-160 is supplied with fully automated controls from either the driller's control console or a handheld wireless remote control.
