    Description

    Under the trusted name of BaylorTM and ElmagcoTM brand names, NOV Eddy Current Brakes have a 50 year history of excellent and reliable performance in the oilfield, used worldwide on both land and offshore rigs. Ruggedly built, they can withstand harsh environments and tough operating conditions while requiring little service attention and operating smoothly and quietly.

    NOV has a wide range of brakes to accommodate any size rig, beginning with our four preferred models listed below and expanding into additional models for more custom requirements. 

    • ECB - 6032, typically used on 1000 HP rigs
    • ECB - 7040, typically used on 1500 HP rigs
    • ECB - 7838, typically used on 2000 HP rigs
    • ECB - 15050, typically used on 3000 HP rigs

      The NOV Eddy Current Brakes and control systems include a complete range of electromagnetic brakes, controls, monitors and cooling systems. NOV also provides several brake controls beginning with the preferred BC - 2025A and expanding into additional models for more custom requirements.

      • BC - 2025A, for all Eddy Current Brakes except ECB - 15050
      • BC - 2040A, for ECB - 15050
      • Brake battery backup can be added or included standard if required as well

      Because the brakes are well established and industry proven, many operators are already familiar with the safe installation, operations, maintenance and trouble-shooting of the brake and its associated products. When installed, operated and maintained properly, NOV Braking systems provide optimum performance, reliability, and safety at a minimum maintenance cost.

      · Electromagnetic braking system

      · During operations, a magnetic field is generated by field coils in magnets mounted inside the brake's spinning rotor, which is coupled with the drawworks shaft. The magnetic field is used to create the braking torque.

      · No overrunning clutch is required because brake is deactivated by simply turning it off

      · Smoother and quieter operations

      · Extended preservation of brake life

      · Braking produced electromagnetically without contact between spinning rotor and stationary magnets, resulting in no wear under normal circumstances

      · The Eddy Current Brake Control systems accomplish braking through the movement of a single drillers control handle that varies the voltage input to the coils. This allows the driller to control the amount of braking torque applied to the spinning rotor and resultantly, the drawworks spool.

      · Air-cooled brake control systems

      · Easy control

      · High braking torque and horsepower absorption, giving driller positive, infinite variable control over drill string speed under various hook loads

      · Brakes meet DNV, ABS, ATEX and Lloyds Registry safety and design standards

      · Brakes are Factory Mutual certified for NEC Class 1, Division 1, Groups C & D hazardous environments
