• Background

    From January 2006 through January 2008, a customer located in the Gulf of Mexico was in need of a compensation solution in order to perform coiled tubing and wireline services onboard a floating intervention vessel. This solution needed to provide a rigless, modular, compensating well intervention tower for coiled tubing and wireline operations. It also needed to provide qualified personnel to ensure safe operation of the compensation systems and handling tools required for the project.


    Devin, a part of the Intervention and Stimulation Equipment Business Unit, was selected to provide the needed products and services for this project. Our team was able to successfully provide a cost effective modular compensating well intervention tower (WIT) system for the customer’s accommodation vessel. The system utilized the “Dual” DIME (Devin Inline Motion Eliminator) traveling head compensation system. By configuring the inline compensators outboard of the WIT, this afforded a greater work window within the tower and considerably reduced overall tower height requirements to accommodate well control/lubricator stack up needs. Qualified personnel were also deployed to ensure safe operation of the compensation system and handling tools required to adequately accommodate project scope.

    As a result of our installation, multiple wells were successfully plugged and abandoned over a three phase program with minimal downtime. Devin products and services provided included: Dual DIME compensating WIT, real-time engineering support, well intervention compensation specialists and rig up, rig down and operations support.


    • The compensation systems provided a safe, economic alternative that resulted in minimal downtime due to inclement weather or tidal conditions
    • Provided a safer environment for divers working on the seafloor during debris removal
